What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus would have to be our new gymnasium for multiple reasons. First off, the amount of hours that I have spent in the gym for the Skylights volleyball program with practice, training and games has caused me to leave a small piece of my heart there forever. Also because of the pride that has been created within it is something that I will never forget, especially come from Canada where sports are not as big of a deal as they are here. One of my favorite moments was when we beat LC State on our home court this season during Conference.
What is your favorite place in Havre?
My favorite place in Havre is an easy choice for me. I would have to pick the shooting range on the south side of town, once again for multiple reasons. Before I moved to Havre I had never shot a gun, in fact I am pretty sure I never even held one. Thanks to Mark Peterson taking the time over the last year, a friend of mine and me took up trap shooting on a regular basis. The people that run the facility have been so friendly, helpful and not to mention, patient with the two of us. From screaming and dancing because I shot my first clay pigeon, to having one of the best shoots so far hitting a 21 in the Northern Lights Annual Trap Shoot this year, it has been a great learning experience and hands down one of my favorite places to be on a Wednesday night or Sunday Morning in Havre.
If you were able to relive your freshman year, what advice would you give yourself?
If I were to give myself any advice if I was able to relive my freshmen year, it would definitely have to be… Don't take your time here for granted. You only ever have one freshmen year, and I feel like that year sets the pace for the rest of your time in college. So make lots of friends, stay up late, learn something, join a club, laugh and make as many new memories as possible because before you know it is the end of the school year and you are going to be packing up your dorm room for summer break and asking yourself where all the time went?
What has been your favorite class and why?
My favorite class that I have taken here is actually one that I am currently taking, Ceramics. It is my favorite class because it is a class that has completely taken me out of my comfort zone. Until now, I had literally never done anything artistic or crafty in my life. It has been a great stress reliever and taking classes on things that you have never done before or do not know anything about is really what I have learned is what college is all about.
If you could live at any other time in history when would it be and why?
I would most definitely want to live in the 80's for multiple reasons. My main reason being that my hair is definitely stuck in it. I also just love the atmosphere of what the 80's were all about. I would love even just to experience it for a day, there was so much change going on in that time. Also it was a generation that grew up without technology at their fingertips and because I virtually never grew up without, I would love to experience that and know what it would feel like. I think that the 80's would be a lot less stressful and more laid back.
Why did you decide Northern?
I chose to attend Northern for the Skylights Volleyball Program, but why I decided to stay at Northern was far more than that. After growing up in a very big city for most of my life, moving to a small town was a surprisingly easy adjustment for. The community has been such a large part of my success here. Having small class sizes and getting to know the other students in your class as long as getting to establish a personal relationship with your teachers has also been super important to me. The school it self is a perfect academic fit for me. There are many reasons I chose to come here, all in all though, the support from all levels whether it be friends, family, coaches, professors or community members, it makes getting an education that much easier.
