Extended University utilizes a wide variety of traditional and technology-facilitated delivery systems to provide both credit and non-credit bearing courses both on and off campus in order to link the academic resources of the university to the needs of the individuals and communities we serve.
Montana State University-Northern offers a wide variety of courses online each semester via the Desire2Learn platform. Northern’s online course offerings include both the general education core and four fully online degree programs.
Each semester, MSU-Northern offers a wide variety of credit-bearing workshops for K-12 teachers working towards recertification. These workshops include both face-to-face and computer-based (CD-ROM) courses. Northern also offers a variety of non-credit workshops for other vocations and professions as well, including customized training and Low Pressure Steam Boiler training.
Summer Session at MSU-Northern is organized to provide you with an opportunity to extend your academic year experience or to return to college for additional personal and professional growth. The Summer Session offers courses that provide a wide variety of academic challenges and exciting opportunities for all.
MSU-Northern is the only Montana institution that offers a Traffic Education K-12 Minor/Endorsement. Summer coursework is offered to fulfill the 20-credit minor.
Dual credit provides high school students the opportunity to earn both high school credit and college credit simultaneously or college credit only in the courses offered by Montana State University-Northern.
MSU-Northern works collaboratively with locations in Great Falls and Lewistown to provide coursework and professional development training to students.
METC provides statewide training for water and wastewater operators, managers, and other environmental and public health professionals.
MMRS provides statewide motorcycle safety training to students by offering 3 courses – Basic RiderCourse®, Basic RiderCourse2® and Advanced RiderCourse®. Training is available in 8 locations across the state taught by RiderCoaches® certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
