For new employees, vacation hours are available for use after 6 months, with supervisor
approval. There are four levels of vacation accrual based on years of service:
10 hours/month 1-10 years
12 hours/month 10-15 years
14 hours/month 15-20 years
16 hours/month over 20 years
Balance can be double what you earn in a calendar year, if you have excess vacation at the end of a calendar year, you must use it by March 31st of the following year. Upon leaving MSUN, vacation is paid out for all of the available leave balance. Employees who are less than full time - See AFSCME contract.
Administrative & Professional Employees earn 8 hours per month. For new employees, sick leave available for use after 90 days, with supervisor approval. Sick leave can be used for the employee and the employee’s immediate family. There is no limit on accumulated balance. Upon leaving MSUN, sick leave is paid out for ¼ of available leave balance.

Monthly payroll.
Payday is on the 11th of each month, unless that date is a weekend, then it’s the
Friday before. See the Payroll Schedule.
Employer contributes dollar amount and employee selects the options that best fit
their situation.

Administrative and Professional staff participate in TIAA CREF. Employee contributes 7.044% of gross pay. Employer contributes 5.956% of gross pay. Defined Contribution program, immediate vesting. Allows employee to select the allocation of their investments.
Classified staff are members of AFSCME. Dues are $38.60 per month, paid 12 months of the year. Dues are prorated for employees who are less than full time.
Administrative and Professional staff can receive a waiver of tuition fees for any university system classes taken while employed at MSUN. The tuition waiver is for up to 6 credit hours per semester. Forms are available online, in the Human Resources Office or in Business Services.
