In this, his eighth year at MSU-Northern, Assistant Professor of Social Sciences and History, Jamie Underwood, continues to offer his best and strive for student excellence. Jamie holds a BA in Geography from West Georgia College, a BA in History from West Georgia College, an MA in History from Valdosta State College, and he is currently taking courses in educational leadership from the University of Montana. After completing much of his own professional education, Jamie taught, for a time, at Western State College in Colorado. While there, Jamie was named the "Outstanding Faculty Member 1995-1996" award.
Certain aspects of Havre's "personality" drew Jamie to the community and our school. These traits include: the small town setting to raise a family in, the small school emphasis and focus on students, and our hands-on environment where Jamie could get involved and make contributions to the college and community. After getting plugged into Havre and MSU-Northern, Jamie began teaching with gusto. He says his favorite and most satisfying facets of his job are: interacting with students and getting to know them, helping guide students along their chosen paths, and, above all watching them grow and succeed.
When Jamie is not working hard on the Northern campus, he loves spending time with his family. His wife Cristina Estrada de Underwood and he are restoring a 112 year old Victorian home. He also enjoys spending time with his boys Colbyn and Dalton. They all adore traveling and spending time outdoors (especially winter activities).
Northern thanks Jamie Underwood and his family for making Havre their home and offering such skill and dedication to the Northern campus.
