Official Enrollment Census Reports

The census reports are presented as PDF files. These file are viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded for free from the Adobe website

If you don't see the toolbar on the left side of the browser window:

1) move your mouse toward the bottom of the screen and the HUD (heads up display) will appear

2) click on the Acrobat logo Acrobat HUD

Easy access to particular reports within each file is provided via the "bookmarks" icon, located on the left side of the document window when viewing the PDF. Clicking the icon will display all the bookmarks in the document.

 

The format of the census reports varies in some details from year to year, but the general structure is consistent. The bookmarks within each PDF file follow this layout:

  1. Headcount (Report A – Part A)
    An unduplicated count of enrolled students.
     
    1. All Students (Not found on all reports)
      On early census reports, Havre and Great Falls campus figures are separated
    2. By Campus (Not found on all reports)

  2. First Time Students (Report A – Part B)
    Breakdown of the level and status of all first-time students.
     
  3. Residency Status (Report A – Part C)
    Breakdown of the residency status of enrolled students.
     
  4. Previous School (Report B – All)
    Previous schools attended by first-time students.
    1. Freshman (Report B – Part A)
      Previous high schools of new freshmen.
    2. Transfer (Report B – Part B)
      Previous college of new transfer students.
    3. Graduate (Report B – Part C)
      Previous college of new graduate students.
       
  5. Credit Hours by Subject (Report C – Part A)
    Breakdown of credit hours by subject (CIP) code.
    1. All Students (Not found on all reports)

    2. By Campus (Not found on all reports)

    3. Nonresident/Excess Capacity (Not found on all reports)
      Excess capacity is a new residence category that is included on later census reports.
       
  6. FTE (Report C – Part A, last page)
    Shows the FTE totals for the semester. FTE stands for Full Time Equivalent; this figure represents the number of full time students who would account for the total credit-hour enrollment of the school. Note this number does not represent actual students. (See report A Part A, headcount, for number of students.)

  7. Geographic Origin (Report E – All)
    Geographic origin of all students. This report shows the origin and residency status of students.
    1. Montana Students (Report E – Part A)
      Origin county of Montana students.
    2. US Students (Report E – Part B)
      Origin state of US students.
    3. Foreign Students (Report E – Part C)
      Origin country of non US students.
    4. Summary (Report E – Part D)
      Summary of Origin and residency status.
       
  8. Age (Report F)
    Count of students by age category and level.
     
  9. Major (Report G – All)
    Student counts by major and level.
    1. Primary (Report G – Part A)
      Student counts by primary major and level.
    2. Secondary (Report G – Part B)
      Student counts of students with secondary majors, by subject.
    3. New Students (Report G – Part C)
      Majors of first-time students.
       
  10. Credit Hours (Report F)
    Count of students by credit-hours.
    1. All Students (Not found on all reports)
