Admittance Information
ASN Program
- Be admitted to Montana State University-Northern (a separate application to the University is required; obtain form from the Admissions Office or apply online /future/apply.aspx
- Submit official transcripts from any college and/or university that you have attended or are currently attending; transcripts will be evaluated to determine credit allotment and articulation per university policy. No required course, including basic skills, will be waived simply on the basis that the applicant has a prior college degree
- GPA Admission requirements: a cumulative GPA of 2.50 and an extracted GPA of pre-requisites 2.85 are required to be admitted in to the ASN Nursing Program
- Have at least a 2.85 extracted GPA with the following required pre-nursing courses: College Algebra, Anatomy & Physiology I, College Writing I, and General Chemistry w/ lab. A grade of C or higher is required. A grade of C- in any course is not acceptable; the course must be retaken. These courses may be taken at MSU-Northern or at other accredited institutions. An advisor from the Department of Nursing will evaluate the transcripts from other institutions and will recommend the credit, if any, to be transferred.
- Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam with a minimum score of 65%.
- Copy of government issued photo identification document (driver's license, passport, etc.).
- Applications are accepted from May 1st through June 15th
- Accepted applicants will be notified by July 1st for fall semester
RN to BSN Completion Program
- Montana State University-Northern RN to BSN Completion Program: Fully ACEN Accredited RN-BSN Completion Program can be earned full-time in 3 semesters, or part-time degree plan which must be completed in 5 years. Applications are accepted every month and admission to the program each fall, spring and summer semesters.

- Submit official transcripts from any college and/or university that you have attended or are currently attending; transcripts will be evaluated to determine credit allotment and articulation per university policy. No required course, including basic skills, will be waived simply on the basis that the applicant has a prior college degree
- GPA Admission requirements: a cumulative GPA of 2.50 is required to be admitted in to the RN-BSN Completion Nursing Program
- Copy of government issued photo identification document (driver's license, passport, etc.).
- Submit copy of current licensure as a Registered Nurse (for the US state where the practicum is to be done) or proof of registration and scheduled date for the NCLEX Exam.
If accepted into MSU-Northern’s ASN or RN-BSN Nursing Program the following is required
Current documentation required to be in your CastleBranch account includes:
- The student is responsible for CastleBranch fees/costs.
- Health Insurance Card
- A copy of a current CPR certification (Health Care Provider or Professional version)
- A TB Skin Test, Tuberculosis Policy: All nursing students are screened annually, for tuberculosis. Initially a two-step tuberculin skin test (TST) will be used to provide a baseline.
- MMR immunization, MMR Policy: Have immunizations that are current for, or have documented proof of, immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR).
- Current Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) vaccination according to the Center for Disease Control guidelines.
- Documentation of the Hepatitis B vaccination series, including titer, or have a valid waiver on file
- Varicella shot series or titer
- background check done with CastleBranch
- Drug testing by CastleBranch for all ASN Program nursing students
- Professional Liability Insurance for all RN -BSN Completion Program nursing students
