Policy:

At those events requiring security guard services, guidelines will be adhered to in the hiring of security guards.

Guidelines:

  • If the guard is allowed to carry a firearm, such guard must have successfully completed the basic courses in law enforcement conducted by the Montana Law Enforcement Academy. This requirement of any regularly employed security guard for the University System should, therefore, be the minimum for contracted security personnel. See §20-25-324, MCA.
  • The security guard must be: (a) a member of local law enforcement agency, or, (b) a licensed security guard, or, (c) the employee of a licensed private security operator.
  • At least one member of the contracted security guards must have the full power of arrest.
