Admitted Students

Congratulations on your admission! You are on your way to becoming a Northern Light!

Now that you've been admitted, this website is created for you to help you prepare for your first semester at Montana State University Northern. Follow the next steps below to make sure you're ready to attend in the fall!

Next Steps

Be sure to submit your FAFSA, and enter our school code #002533 in the school release section of the application. Please contact our Financial Aid staff with any questions about funding!

Step 3. Attend a SOAR

SOAR is our Summer Orientation Advising and Registration event, it occurs during the spring and summer. You will sign up for a date when you submit your Intent to Register or by clicking the link below. Each student should pick one date that they wish to attend; below are the SOAR dates for 2024, all of which are on a Friday:

  • June 21, 2024
  • July 12, 2024
  • July 26, 2024

At the SOAR, students will meet with an advisor to cover the following topics to be ready for the upcoming year:

  • Plan your course schedule based on your major
  • Complete your admissions checklist
  • Meet with a financial aid advisor about financial aid
  • Learn how to work through our student portal online
  • Go on a personalized campus tour

Step 4. Apply for Housing

At MSUN, we require all freshmen to live on-campus in our residence halls to get the most out of their first-year experience. Check out our Residence Life website to learn more about our residence halls and fill out a Housing Application.

Step 5. Register for Navigate Northern Days-Orientation

Navigate Northern Days is packed with events to introduce you to the great experiences our students have at Northern in the classroom and on our campus. It's designed to prepare you for success in your first year of collegiate courses. Navigate Northern Days is mandatory for all first year and transfer students, and you will register for it during the spring before your start semester! Click here for more information!

Step 6. Stay Tuned

Continue to check your mail and email (the one you listed on your application) for updates, announcements and reminders! Make sure you follow us on social media as well to stay updated and see what's happening around campus!
