Student SpotLight: Theron Peterson

Theron Peterson
Theron Peterson, a Civil Engineering Technology student, spent his summer interning with the Montana Department of Transportation. Based primarily in Havre, Montana, Theron had the opportunity to work with the local engineers on several highway projects in the surrounding area.
Theron was responsible for quality assurance on various road projects, including tracking yields and collecting core samples for paving. He also took samples of oil and chips for chip sealing, inspected the removal of delaminated concrete on bridge decks, performed nuclear density and concrete testing. He also assisted with staking and surveying for current projects in locations like Harlem, Rudyard, Fort Benton, and Chester.
Theron enjoyed the opportunity for hands-on experience and training from the MDT Engineering staff. "Being able to work on the jobsite and see how what I’m learning in the classroom is implemented in real life is awesome," he said. “The MDT engineers have been great to work with and I have learned a lot from them this summer.”
